There’s many a tip and trick to perfecting beautiful, glowing skin on the outside, but the big secret is being kept firmly on the inside. It’s all about what you eat and drink, so get reading!
There’s something in the water
You’ve probably heard a million times by now that you should drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Not only does it help your body to function, but it keeps your skin soft and supple. A good way to test if you’re drinking enough is to pinch the skin on the back of your hand; if it takes longer than a second to go back to normal it means your skin is thirsty! Try and avoid sugary, fizzy drinks as they are full of artificial colours that aren’t so good for your body either.
Get your 5 a day
Fresh fruit and veg are they key to healthy skin. Try and eat a selection of different varieties everyday to boost your energy levels and feed your skin essential vitamins and nutrients. If you find it difficult to eat enough, or if you’re fussy and don’t like certain foods, try a home-made soup or smoothie. For soup, blend together a few different vegetables, heat-up then eat with a crusty bread roll. For a smoothie, chop and blend your favourite fruit and add a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Drink straight away while it’s nice and cold! For more tasty recipes and ideas, go to the Fun section.
Chocolate Alert!
The big myth that chocolate is bad for your skin has never been proven by scientists, so until it is, don’t feel bad about indulging!
Omega 3 Rocks
Oily fish such as sardines, mackerel and salmon boast high levels of Omega 3 oil which is good for calming the skin. It also gets rid of nasty toxin build-ups, so it’s an essential ingredient in your food. Things like Fish Fingers are great for getting your Omega 3, but always look on the packets as cheaper brands may not contain the same ingredients.
Plant a Seed
Seeds aren’t just for planting in the ground, oh no! Sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds are packed with much-needed skin-rejuvenators such as vitamins, minerals and essential fats. They’re also a great snack as well, try mixing a few different types together or sprinkle over porridge.
Breathe Easy
A pot of natural live yogurt makes bad breath a thing of the past. The yogurt contains ingredients that neutralize bad smells; great for when you don’t have a tooth brush handy, and makes for a great, healthy snack!
Love Marmite!
Did you know that Marmite contains the vitamin B2, which helps to make skin brighter and glow? Other foods that are high in B2 are cheese, eggs and beef which is great news for those who love a good omelette or Sunday roast!
Splash of Colour
Bright, tropical coloured fruit and vegetables contain high amounts of Vitamin A which repair skin cells, and encourage natural exfoliation. Mangos and Peppers are the best, so why not try making yourself a colourful fruit-salad or stir-fry? Remember, the more colourful, the better.
